The Basics

If you’re new and unsure, don’t get too caught up in the details, because it sounds more complicated than it is! Though our pinball events are competitions, our environment is fun, encouraging, and not that serious!

Depending on format, a player would typically play anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. Entry fees and format are listed on the calendar.

Tournaments have several rounds. Each round, players are grouped in a 3 or 4 player group, and assigned to random games. Players are assigned to Player 1, Player 2, Player 3, or Player 4 on that round. Each game usually has 3 balls (some old classics have 5), and players take turns playing Ball 1 in order, then Ball 2, and Ball 3. Once the group is done, the round is complete and scores are entered. Players will get 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place on that game. Once everyone is done with that round, a new round begins and new pairings and games are selected. Rounds accumulate and final standings are based on how they place.

In More Depth

Strikes format tournaments are a shorter format for some players. These can be 3 or 4 Strikes. and last 1.5-4 hours, depending on how well a player does. The bottom 2 scores (in a 4 player group) or bottom score (in a 3 player group) will get a strike. If the event is 4 strikes, players are knocked out of the tournament after receiving their 4th, until a final winner remains. Players often stick around to socialize and cheer on others!

Match Play format can be 6-8 rounds, plus a finals playoff. This often last around 3.5-4.5 hours. Players in a 4 player group receive a score of 7, 5, 3, or 1 points (or 7, 4, or 1 points in a 3 player group), depending on whether they placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th (or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd). Those with the most points at the end of 6-8 rounds move on to a finals playoff, until a final winner remains.
